For that solution, I've build a root filesystem that can be shared through NFS. So the root filesystem is shared to all the nodes (read-only share) and at boot time it set up Ram Disk Device to store some files and directory that must be writable (directory /var, /tmp, /home, /root and some /etc/ files). If you think that it can be useful for you, you can download this root filesystem from sourceforge (omrootfs.tar.bz2, 86 Mo). It's a Debian distribution, so you can use tools from Debian like apt-get. Unfortunately, there's no good documentation, but I'm ready to release a "good" documentation during the next week (now it's in the second reading phase).
