Ah, HA! I was using the data on the CI web page http://ci-linux.sourceforge.net/ which has the cvs login as cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/ci-linux login but the correct server is ci-linux.cvs.sourceforge.net Confusion ended.
