For reliability/stability in a production environment, the obvious answer
is 1.2. However, in our experience, even 1.2 is unstable and cannot be
trusted in a commercial setting. Our test debian sarge implementation
would freeze randomly, apache2 would hang/refuse connections, etc. Even
with a professional support company to get things to a stable point (over
a few months), it was never truly solid.
Coupled with the staggeringly slow development/release cycle of openssi, I
would suggest sticking with something like lvs.
Don't get me wrong, openssi is an amazing project and has a lot of
promise. It just needs (years) time to mature. Realistically, this
project should be labeled "alpha".
I find it sad that companies such as HP and Intel do not sponsor this
project (as we do other OSS projects) to really get it to take off. They
stand to gain from doing so.
