Why not?  Why not have all the spec files in there and give the authors 
access to the svn repo to maintain them?  Wouldn't it be great if we 
could simply do "make rpm"?

If there are not too many dependencies and differences between distros 
regarding apt, you could have one apt-get.spec.in file that generates a 
apt-get.spec file for a specific distro.  For some packages I maintained 
(prioprietary, unfortunatly), I did that for generating Red Hat, Fedora 
and SuSE rpms.
