Thanks Glenn, my keyboard was set to U.S.

My original Bookworm system had Caja and mate-control-center installed.  
The fact that the upgrade seemed to leave them out causes accessibility 
problems.  Hopefully the Trixie/Debian 13 installer will not leave these 
out.  Another problem seems to be that the Screenreader checkbox turns 
itself off as soon as you check it.  This is in the menu at the login 
screen you get by pressing F10.

Debian 13 is planned for release this summer, but I don't think there is 
a test installer yet.
