Dear Debian developers,

Eigen is a widely used C++ template library for linear algebra (matrices,
vectors, numerical solvers). Many packages in Debian across scientific,
robotics, computer vision, geometry, and other domains depend on it via
libeigen3-dev.

I have filed 41 bugs against packages failing to build with libeigen3-dev 5.0.1
(currently in experimental); 39 are still open. Release notes for the new major version:

  https://libeigen.gitlab.io/releases/5.0/

The main breaking changes in 5.0:

  - C++14 is now the minimum required standard; packages still using
    -std=c++11 will fail to build.
  - The CMake integration has been modernized; older CMake properties
    may need updating.
  - Eigen::all and Eigen::last have moved to Eigen::placeholders::all
    and Eigen::placeholders::last.

libeigen3-dev_5.0.1-1 is expected to be uploaded to unstable at the beginning of
June 2026. At that point open FTBFS bugs will be raised to serious.

All filed bugs are tagged:

  User: [email protected]
  Usertags: eigen3-5.0

Please help to fix those bugs as much as possible to escape package removal from testing.

Thanks,

Anton
