experimental works just fine for updates currently...

experimental does not update automatically (otherwise using experimental would
cause all installed packages from unstable which have a version in
experimental to be upgraded to the experimental version, which is
"undesirable" to say the least...) This also causes apt-get to ignore
experimental during (dist-)upgrades, which is a Good Thing.

Updating Packages from experimantal can be done using apt-get:

apt-get -t experimental PACKAGENAME

will always install the newest version of PACKAGENAME from experimental or
upgrade an already installed package if there is a newer version available.
Unfortunately the depends of the experimental XFree are not versioned (I'm
sure there is a reason...), so "apt-get install -t experimental xlibs" will
only upgrade xlibs, and will leave all other XFree Packages untouched :-(

Use

COLUMNS=200 dpkg -l | grep 0pre1

to find all neccessary X Packages...

v4 is quite stable for me (0 crashes until now), but I cannot say that v1
actually was unstable or crash-prone. Even the older dsX Versions were
perfectly usable... But upgrading may be a good idea nonetheless...
