To get a popular distribution (that brings in a lot of people and
developers), it requires an easy to use desktop. It may be unpopular with
some people here, but we have to put our personal biases aside, and think
about what the larger goal would be here.

If popularity is desired, there are two huge factors why Gobo shouldn't go
with a minimalist desktop:
1. A user friendly desktop with common programs will require many GTK and
QT libraries anyway. So you're not really saving that much space.
2. A new user needs an easy desktop. If a power user wants a minimalist
desktop, then they are probably smart enough to know how to install it
themselves. (for example, I use Ubuntu, but I have OpenBox as my desktop)


So if Gobo wanted to make an impressive desktop that made people say "WOW",
I would say there isn't a single distro yet that takes strong advantage of
the Gnome 3 desktop. The Gnome 3 desktop has a lot to offer, and no other
distribution has exploited Gnome 3 to it's full potential for end users.
