My guess is that the kernel is failing to find the root partition (as
specified by root= on the kernel parameter list). Please take a look and
check if it's correct. Given that the Live CD can also be interpreted as a
USB device, I would not be surprised if the disk device had been enumerated
differently during the install and afterwards.
