Further to my install on the AA1, I installed grub to the MBR to see it's
behavior --it didn't show any other installs on the disk.

Installed grub from MX-14 Boot-repair OK, but now it doesn't register GoboL.
1) Which version of grub is GoboL using?

So, I reinstalled, again and get similar result to No. 3 of the post by
Eihiko O | 30 Jan 16:23 2014, Alpha install failures.

I used the GoboL-15 ISO on an Easy2Boot USB, which so far has given good
results on everything I've used on it. Easy2Boot is not only for Windows,
but is easy to setup with Linux.

2) Are there some incantations needed or does it not like my AA1s?

Thanks for your tips. Looking forward to understanding GoboL and running it.

saludos,
Richard.
