If you take a look at charts online on which OS is used for accessing a
concrete service, you will find they position Mac between 6%-8% (with some
showing like 10%) and linux 1%-2%, other os tend to be less than 1% (
something like 0.4%). It's been a while since I have seen the information (
the only one I keep track now it's steam linux usage) so I may remember it
incorrectly, that is counting only the desktop, in the mobile phone (and
servers) this changes, as in mobiles Android is the dominant one.

That's seems to be a fun hobby :P, maybe I'll practice it someday, but I
have experienced something like this too, the number of "what?"s are an
indicator of how well the OS will do in the market.

As always that's the GUI job and there are some which do their best to
solve this.
