Thanks for the advice,

I don't know why I didn't think of just using dd. I imaged the USB again as
you described and it worked great.

I now have a new issue as the installer on the live CD doesn't seem to
recognize my hard drive as an install target (only lists partitions on my
USB and SD). I've tried initializing the installer with both un-allocated
space available and with some empty partitions.

I've had this problem before with other OS's namely Puppy linux. Could it
be that Gobo doesn't support nvme as an install target drive?

I apologise if this is another dumb error on my part.
