Then I'd vote for either the one or the other. If they are not compatible they should be both added but be mutually exclusive to each other. But I think they should really be maintained by someone who actually uses it. Maintaining a package just for the sake of having that package is IMO a bad idea because the maintainer can't catch changes that may have to be done. In the example of LPP, that would be a change to the init-scripts so that information about the startup process are displayed and the progress bar is drawn. I'm not an active user of that thing, either. At least, not anymore.
