Linuxtag Event Summary

Hi all,

on request by blindcoder, I'll post my blog entries covering ROCK Linux at 
Linuxtag to this list. Please comment if you like.

Linuxtag - Day 0

Today I drove to Karlsruhe by car. The ride took about 5 hours. Unfortunately 
my CD Player is broken so I had to stick to the radio. That was horrible, but 
I'll reserve an extra entry just for that. I arrived around 18:30 and went to 
the ROCK Linux booth. It was empty apart from empty boxes placed there by the 
X.org folks. I went to the KDE people and got some internet there and even 
more important: water!

I tried to contact Hannes but failed for the moment. Meanwhile the X.org 
people helped getting some tables and chairs for our booth. It looked better 
now ;-). Hannes found me at the KDE booth and we put one of the bug posters 
at the booth.

For the moment we were done with the booth and went for some pizza and later 
to the local CCC to chill and writing blogs ;-). Not very exciting this day 
0, but that is quite usual.

I'll add some pictures later.

Edit: After we left the CCC we had the fun of getting the wheelchair (125kg) 
into hannes' flat. Speaking getting it into the elevator first. The entrance 
door and the elevator door were making this quite complicated. The following 
image will give you an idea. We managed it anyway.

Linuxtag Days 1 & 2

Linuxtag Day 1 won't get an extra entry because it wasn't that exciting. Most 
of the day I spent with Hannes waiting for the rest of our booth crew that 
got stuck in Bavaria. In the evening they joined us at the the AKK. We spent 
the rest of the evening at a university party.

On Linuxtag Day 2 the Rock Linux booth was now fully operating. The coffee 
machine is working ;-). There are quite a lot people who are interested in 
creating distributions. Hannes set up his voip phone so we could offer free 
calls for everybody. Unfortunately we missed to advertise this a bit more. 
Clifford and me found out that it is impossible to get a pizza from 14:00 to 
17:00 around the Kongresszentrum, so we returned annoyed and hungry to the 
booth. In the evening we joined the KALUG party and made ourselves 
comfortable on the ground. Some of us left to the Kulturruine. I went 
sleeping early so I managed to get more than 6 hours of sleep! yeah! Feeling 
much better today.

Linuxtag - Days 2 & 3

This report is a little late, but I was a bit busy the last days.

On Friday we were a bit late at the booth since the night was short and we had 
some logistic problem (switching wheelchair that was located at the 
university). Some friends from Chemnitz came to Linuxtag that day. The booth 
business went quite smooth as they weren't so many visitors than we saw the 
years before. Clifford upgraded the flyspray bugtracking system at our 
homepage, cursing a lot. After some debating we all decided to drop this 
year's social event and relaxing instead at the CCC Karlsruhe. There were 
talks and discusions 'til late in the night.


On Saturday the number of visitors did not increase as we expected it. Andreas 
H?bner (huebi) the former ROCK Linux stable tree maintainer payed us a visit. 
He talked with Clifford about social hacking, can't tell you more, because I 
had to leave at that moment. Microsoft ran out of their neat little cubes, 
which was unfortunate, they are nice gifts. Some people installed a banner 
that reminds of the comnmunity as a base for Linuxtag. It seems that some 
people in the community were unsatisfied with this event. To be honest, I was 
disappointed a bit, too. About 16:00 everybody started to leave. I drove home 
in the evening, taking Hannes with me, who wanted to see the town again.

There should always be a conclusion. The conclusion for the team is that we 
need flyers for the booth, and new posters that explain what ROCK Linux 
actually is, since this was FAQ Nr.1. We need some lights for the booth as 
well, since the community booths have no light at all, which let them look a 
bit uninteresting compared the the shiny commercial booths that crowded the 
place.
