Hi all,
after all the rumors I now took the time to polish the SPARC bits a
bit (most already in SVN):
* fixed packages (like kbd, e2fsprogs)
* found out the recent silo is buggy like hell (need to fix this later -
used an older one for this CD (after hours of debugging ...))
* fixed linuxrc.c for kernel with stricter pointer checking in the
mount syscall path (sparc, ...)
* much boot stuff layout and config work
* much more tweaking and tinkering I forgot a this late hour
So: I'm pleased to announce that I now have a full functional bootable
CD for SPARC (64 for now) - at least it boots and works on my
UltraSPARC 5 ... (that does even include "ReneR" debug output in the
kernel init code ... ;-)
The rsync+ssh is still running, but at some point this night a 16MB
2nd stage rescue/install image will be ready, here:
http://dl.rocklinux-consulting.de/sparc/sparcboot_cd1.iso
md5sum:
2e0c1388327cb65691b77b9a967f7cbb sparcboot_cd1.iso
size:
15761408
I also have a full (unoptimized - plain v7 so a bit slow on Ultra)
-rc5 build here - I'll embed it onto the CD later - so we should have
a fully installable ISO.
Temporary drawbacks:
* the kernel included is a custom build - not obtained using the rock
scripts
* the only kernel included is 2.6.3 (including PCI XFree fixes from me)
* the image does not include modules
* no full install tested
* contains ReneR debug output on bootup
And most important:
* ALSA does not yet work for 32bit binaries and the 64bit kernel -
those syscall just hard-freezes the box ... :-( (is on my long TODO)
Some more tiny changes necessary will be commited to svn when I got
sleep and polished them thereafter.
Sincerely yours,
René Rebe
