Hey guys, Got this 'brandnew' IBM RS6000 7025-F40... It's got AIX installed, and ALL I want with this thing is to run Linux. I just got this machine for free. Had dual 604e and 1G of RAM, 4 * 4.5G SCSI HDD's and a SSA Cabinet with 16 * 4.5G SCSI HDD's. I'm getting the cables for the SSA later next week ;) The only thing I don't have is the AIX root's pw... but that's ok... don't want to be in the system, want to reinstall it (hehe) I've been trying to start this thing, but ran into lotsa problems I'm not used to. For instance that 'OpenFirmware' stuff is horrific... yuk... Ok, I managed to get the following running: Pressing '1' on POST CODE FF1 brings the OpenFirmware Menu Pressing '5' starts some kind of configuration stuff Pressing '8' starts the OpenFirmware console prompt (the 'Ok' prompt) So, I press '8' to bring up the menu and type the following to boot using the cd... boot cdrom /boot/<kernel-name> console=ttyS0,9600 console=tty0 initrd=/boot/<initrd-name> Now I've downloaded many cd's including your drock-2.0.1-rev3163-ppc_cd1.iso At least this CD has some mentioning of rs6000 capability as zImage.chrp-rs6k-2.4.22-benh2 sounds good to me LOL So... tried boot cdrom /boot/zImage.chrp-rs6k-2.4.22-benh2 console=ttyS0,9600 console=tty0 initrd=initrd-2.4.22-benh2-rock.img And where all the other CD's just 'hang', I am now returned to the Ok prompt without an error... But it looks like it isn't 'doing' much either.... I was hoping somebody has a little experience they would like to share... PS... I actually came to Rock Linux after long hours of googling for rs6000 bootable cd's... ;) Cheers... Rory
