What does "phantom" status mean on a perc 320/DC?

Hi,

I recently got a Precision 450n with a perc 320/DC with two 146GB
disks in a RAID 0 config running RedHat 8.0 (with an XFS enabled
2.4.18-27 kernel).  This configuration worked well for a couple
weeks at which point I started seeing aacraid "Timeout Detected"
errors but the machine kept running.  This morning the appended
series of messages were logged at which point the machine locked
up and I was force to attempt a reboot.  On attempting to reboot the
controller said something like (sorry I didn't write the message
down) "container missing one or more disks".  The controller prompted
to accept the configuration changes or enter the array configuration
utility.  When I go into the array management utility I could see
both disks but the controller said the status of the array
was "phantom".  I called Dell and they suggested running the
Dell diagnostic utilities which is still running on the disks
but so far everything seems to pass the tests.

So, my long winded question is:  What does the phantom status
mean and how can I fix this and avoid it in the future?
