After my non-lucky test of 2.4.22-pre3, I switched to a precompiled
SuSE kernel:

linux38:2 16:59:07 ~ # uname -a
Linux linux38 2.4.20-64GB-SMP #1 SMP Wed Aug 6 18:30:02 UTC 2003 i686
unknown unknown GNU/Linux
linux38:2 16:59:41 ~ # uptime
  4:59pm up 6 days 4:10, 4 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
linux38:2 16:59:45 ~ #

The problem seems to be gone...
Before this, the aacraid hang was happening almost every night, during
the I/O phases of the nightly backup.
6 days without any aacraid hang now, and the same success on the other 2
machines which got the aacraid hang regularly before, too.

Cheers -e
