Hi, I have a Dell PowerEdge 2450 with 3x36Gb drives configured for RAID 5. Drive 2 recently failed, and Dell quickly sent me a replacement drive. I put the new drive into the server, and it spun up, but the orange warning light stayed on. I left it for half an hour to see if it would start rebuiling, and nothing new apeared in the kernel log, and the orange warning light was still on. I thought that I might have not put the drive in correctly, so I took reseated it by taking it out, waiting 30 seconds and putting the drive back in. At this point, the orange LED on drive 0 and 2 lit up, and after about 10 seconds the whole system froze. I thought that the RAID was configured wrong, so I re-created the RAID array, formatted, re-installed and restored my system (thank god for a decent corporate backup system!) I then tested the system by pulling the drive again - and I got exactly the same problem! Does anyone know why this is happening, and how I can fix it?
