MY BAD!!
It was a new install, and I mistakenly assumed that hotplug was already
installed
because the USB devices were auto-detected. DOH!!
Installing hotplug and hotplug-utils fixed it right up!
Maybe this should go in the FAQ under the NOOB category:
Q: The at76c503 driver loads and finds the correct Mac Address, but no
wlan0
interface can be seen by ifconfig/iwconfig. What's wrong?
A: You forgot to install hotplug (doh!!)
Anyway, thanks to everyone involved with this project - it is WAY more
straightforward
than the confusion that clouds the sourceforge driver.
