I think there's no such an option. As far as I know, the 505a/2958 pair 
only works with the CVS driver. Didn't try with the 2.6 kernel, because 
I'm afraid it could break some other things in the system, that would be 
a major change for me... I would like to know, though, if your personal 
experience is something widely accepted, and I should give up trying the 
CVS driver with a 2.4.x kernel.
