Which "other command"?? iwlist is not yet supported. Both iwconfig and
ifconfig display stats. Which stats do you miss?

Open TCP connections are AFAIK not affected if the underlying MAC is cut
for some seconds (i.e. the reconnect of your client).

yes, but the question remains if the load caused the ap or the client at
the Linux machine to drop the beacons.

What does the manual say about the LED meaning? Link quality or simply
link activity, e.g. rx of beacons?

Difficult to find out without a trace tool. Does your access point display
some statistics (tx packets with re-transmissions, rx packets with
errors)? What's your maximal throughput with tcp (ftp a large file)?

Maybe your devices are _too close_ tp the ap causing
interferences?
