how to modify the source?

Hello,
 
when i plug in or pull out the cable in using NIC driver e100, we get some information like "e100: eth1 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full duplex
"e100: eth1 NIC Link is Down"
 
when plugged in/out the cable in eepro100, how can I get information such as link status, as r e100 do.
