Not sure if I should post here or in the eepro-bug list but this one seems more active. I recently built and installed the very latest eepro and associated drivers in a linux 2.2.20 kernel (why so old? because it's what is used in tomsrtbt floppy linux)., Everything works fine but I noticed this in the boot dmesg: eth0: Intel Pro/100 VE (type 1031) at 0xa0000000, 00:D0:59:33:AD:EA, IRQ 11. Board assembly 000000-000, Physical connectors present: RJ45 Primary interface chip i82555 PHY #1. ** The configuration EEPROM enables Sleep Mode. ** This will cause PCI bus errors! ** Update the configuration EEPROM with the eepro100-diag program. General self-test: passed. Serial sub-system self-test: passed. Internal registers self-test: passed. Intel EtherExpress Pro 10/100 EEPROM contents: Station address FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF. Board assembly ffffff-255, Physical connectors present: RJ45 BNC AUI MII Primary interface chip i82555 PHY #-1. Secondary interface chip i82555, PHY -1. Sleep mode is enabled. This is not recommended. Under high load the card may not respond to PCI requests, and thus cause a master abort. To clear sleep mode use the '-G 0 -w -w -f' options. Well, I don't trust this, as it now doesn't even know the correct hw addr. I don't understand anything about this, I am not aware of having experienced the problem which the above text describes as possibly resulting from "sleep mode", so I don't really know if I want to "clear sleep mode" or not ... any advice welcome.
