eepro100 works with all cable

hi,

i've got strange things that i don't understand :

we receive some eepro100 with blank eeprom to integrate in our own card.
i write the eeproms and try the card.

i make a direct connection between a pc and the eepro100 card with a straight 
cable and a crossover cable at 10mb/s and i've got the same results :
the connection worked !! (i've got the link, the ping works, ftp, ....)
i do the test with 4wires and 8 wires cable.

how could it be possible ? normaly only the crossover cable works.

i do the same test at 100mb/s, and now, only the straight cable works !!
the connection with the crossover cable doesn't work at all.

i don't write the good things in the eeprom or there's an hardware error ???

if someone have got an idea, because i'm lost :)
