how can I run diagnostics on my Intel PRO/100 VE ethernet card

This is an IBM Etherjet built-in card.   It has lately been acting strangely 
- sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.   It seems that it usually 
works if I plug the cable into a different, working, ethernet port and then 
into this Etherjet port.    Strange, I know.   Maybe a coincidence.  Anyway, 
I suspect it is in some kind of trouble.

I thought I would run eepro100-diag  with the -T option - but:
/usr/local/bin/eepro100-diag -f -T
/usr/local/bin/eepro100-diag: invalid option -- T

I do see mention of -T in the source but only as the long option --test, so 
I tried that:
/usr/local/bin/eepro100-diag --test -f

Use '-a' or '-aa' to show device registers,
     '-e' to show EEPROM contents, -ee for parsed contents,
  or '-m' or '-mm' to show MII management registers.

I don't think it ran any test.   Does the eepro100 package contain any kind 
of diagnostic test for this card?
