The new DPP protocol functionality is not really needed for the exact case described here, i.e., DPP release 1 functionality is sufficient for that. That said, the upcoming extensions in the protocol can make this more convenient to use. The current development snapshot includes support for DPP presence announcement in wpa_supplicant as an Enrollee and Configurator and in hostapd as a relay for a remote Configurator/Controller.
