Getting the HP 4215xi to work

This seems like pretty straight forward stuff and I believe I am running the latest hpijs. I can ptal-print, ptal-connect -service ECHO. The log messages indicate that the printer exists. Cups seems to think it prints the stuff. But absolutely nothing comes out? Shouldn't I be able to just send a job right to the printer by using the ptal-print command? What other steps can I take to figure out why this is not printing?
