hplip-0.8.4

Since installing hplip-0.8.2, /var/log/cups/error_log has been continually 
busy, logging four lines over and over every five seconds.  My toolbox is 
inoperativeas I don't have  PyQt 3.8 or later., but I can print text and scan.

How can I stop this unnecessary logging without losing capability to print?
