The new functions of HPLIP you find when starting the "toolbox" 
(depending on model and mechanism):

- Status reporting of all jobs the machine does
- Ink level display
- Nozzle checking
- Nozzle cleaning
- Head alignment
- Color adjustment
- Test page
- Access GUIs for printing, scanning, and memory card reading by 
clicking a button

In addition, no "ptal-init setup" is needed any more. Configuration goes 
automatically. Simply have HPLIP running and restart CUPS after plugging 
a device. Then you will get an "hp:/..." URI for the device in the 
output of "lpinfo -v". Then set up a CUPS queue with this URI and the 
appropriate PPD file (which is supplied with HPLIP). After that the 
device is fully functional.
