git-grab-overlay calls deprecated git-checkout-cache

Hi,

I decided to check out your GIT tree.  I'm not familiar with GIT, but I
followed the directions from the web page.  

The git-grab-overlay overlay script, though, calls git-checkout-cache, which
my system doesn't have.  No package on the entire Debian repositories,
including stable (which is really old), had this file.  

I asked around, and someone mentioned that git-checkout-cache is deprecated
in favor of git-checkout-index.  I don't know if these two commands take
the same arguments, but I have a feeling they might.  

What would be nice would be if you could augment your script to use
git-checkout-cache only if git-checkout-index isn't detected on the system.
