Yes, Acer is stupid. We have this problem in our university network
all the time. We also contacted Acer, but they don't want to fix this.

They driver only maps the geo code from the eeprom to an allowed
channel list. For fixing your problem you only need to change two
lines of the driver. But allow to decide which channel are ok will
never go into the official driver.
