Dear All,

I have been trying to configure the rtap functionality in my mobile ad hoc
network testbed, where there doesn't exist any base station. I installed the
IPW2200BG driver having the version v.1.2.0, the
corresponding ieee80211having the version v.1.2.15 and upgraded the firmware
with v3.0. The platform is FC5 having the kernel version 2.6.15-1.2054, and
the wireless.h that I can find under /usr/include/linux was version 16 and
developed in April 2003.

After having installed the driver and the firmware, I followed the following
steps:
% modprobe ipw2200 rtap_iface=1
% iwconfig eth1 essid testnet
% echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ipw2200/*/rtap_iface
% tcpdump -i rtap0

However, when I typed the last command, I got the follwing error message,
although my eth1 interface was active:

"tcpdump: bind: Network is down"

Would somebody let me know what causes this error, and how I can get around
with this problem ?

Thanks in advance for taking your invaluable time to answer my question.

Cheers

Siva
