There is a nearly canonical answer to this question since kernel 2.6.18
supports a generic led interface.
Thomas Tuttle posted a request to support that subsystem by the driver
some months ago which I repeated after some weeks, but no one of the
developers seems interested in that.
If we had such an integration in form of a trigger it is the laptops
drivers duty to actually make the led blink. For example the asus acpi
driver already can handle that.
