Since HAL doesn't return an error status, I don't think it's possible to
make any conclusion.  It looks like a bug in HAL, as it should return an
error status if a call to HAL fails.

You could make some conclusions if you find whether and when the open
source HAL does the same thing.

Then it's serious, as it has a lasting effect.

If you can reproduce "HAL status 0" faster than that, then it shouldn't

You may want to open a ticket in the Madwifi trac for that problem.  At
least it would be easier to refer to the problem in the future.
