That's because you are using ath5k now.  Interfaces need to be specified
differently if you are using kismet with ath5k.

If you want to know what you are using, I suggest that you install
either one or the other.

If you want to keep using MadWifi, you need to blacklist ath5k by adding
"blacklist ath5k" to any file in /etc/modprobe.d/

That's a clear sign that you are using a mac80211 based driver, such as
ath5k.
