license and kernel

Hi
maybe this an old question and I am sorry for that.
If I buy a full license for my hsf modem, is this allow me to use any 
future release of the drivers?
I saw that changing kernel release sometimes the drivers don't work 
anymore and pay everytime a new license.....
it is not quite clever...IMHO
