Unable to install modem driver >> no device detected by hsf driver - HDA modems may require reboot

Hi Linuxant;
 
I am trying to install the Modem driver on a Compaq B300 Laptop but
encounter the following errors, do you guys have any ideas what's the
cause of the problem?
The modem is a HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP and i am using
SUSE 9.3
Warning: no device detected by hsf driver - HDA modems may require
reboot

Note: HDA support not compiled in the driver
