Hi I tried your suggestions on the modulation, but it didn't make any difference to the system crashes, unfortunately. Do you have any other suggestions? If not, I was thinking of installing Debian etch i386 on a spare partition, to maybe see if its a hardware problem, or if it's more a problem with amd64 / Ubuntu / just the way my ubuntu system is set up.
