What type of CPU required for hsfmodem?

Will the driver code in hsfmodem-7.60.00.09full.tar.gz support an AOpen FM56-SVV PCI modem with the Conexant chipset on an AMD Elan processor running a 2.6.20.4 or later linux kernel?

I have a sinking feeling it won't as after building on that platform and rebooting I get an invalid opcode on boot and stack call trace and a "hung" system.

Here's the start of the "bad" news (copied from the console):

invalid opcode: 0000 [#1]
