What driver version are you using?
  (Specifically, has it been modified from the original release?)

Don't pass module options unless you are certain that your have a
non-standard installation.  The driver is designed to work correctly
with no options.  Most options break normal operation to work with
something screwy on the other end of the cable.

Check /proc/net/dev for link errors.

I'm guessing that your problem is resolving names, which is independent
of the driver.  Check /etc/resolv.conf
