extremely slow LAN between XP and Linux file server

I got another newer PC running running WinXP = (AMD 1800GHZ, 512M RAM) connected with the linux PC via a 4 port Belkin = router. The router is then connected to a cable modem to my ISP. When = testing the cable modem speed using some of the web based tools, the XP = machine can easily achieve 2M bits per second speed. While the Linux = machine can also achieve 706k bit per second. However, when I try to = move files between XP and Linux machine using FTP or Samba, the speed I = got is quite disappointing: Uploading from XP to linux using FTP, I got about 25-30K bytes per = second Downloading from Linux pc to XP, I got about 45-50k bytes per second. On XP side, I am using a build in either net port (VIA PCI 10/100MB Fast = Ethernet Adapter) configured to 100BaseTxFull Duplex. on Linux side, I am using a Linksys LNE100TX V4.0 PCI adapter card, = configured to be 100BaseTxFull too. Can someone tell me if this kind of slow LAN speed is due to the lacking = of power of my 166 PC or the configuration of my NICs?
