There have been reports of kudzu from FC1 messing up older 3Com cards 
which would not be recognized by the driver (the driver is usualy started 
after kudzu). IIRC, all reports mentioned 3C905 (not letter added), so I 
have no idea if 3C900 would behave the same. If it does, the so far only 
fix is to disable kudzu; that means that if you make modifications to the 
hardware configuration of your computer, you should run kudzu manually
afterwards to detect the changes, then reboot to be able to use the 
network card.

There might be lots of reasons why this fails. Do you have this computer 
connected to a Cisco switch ? Do you have the Red Hat firewall in place ? 
What does 'mii-tool' report ?
