The 3c90x driver is written by 3Com, but it's not distributed with the kernel. Some distributions (including Red Hat Linux) have included it in the past. > Dec 16 05:59:41 localhost ifup: modprobe: Can't open dependencies file > /lib/modules/2.4.20-8BOOT/modules.dep (No such file or directory) The *BOOT kernel is not supposed to be used on a normal system. It's a minimal kernel that is used only for installation and for very small systems that are otherwise not capable to run the normal kernel. So something is wrong with the kernel and/or modutils installation. You can try to load the module first by using "insmod 3c59x" and then restarting the network, but this is not guaranteed to work. The best solution is to fix the installation - please write to some Red Hat Linux related mailing list. > Is there a way to remove the hardware from what RH 9 has detected so > that I can go through the 'New hardware detection' routine again ? "kudzu" is responsible for hardware detection at boot. But without working modules, even if it detects it again, you won't be able to activate it. -- Bogdan Costescu IWR - Interdisziplinaeres Zentrum fuer Wissenschaftliches Rechnen Universitaet Heidelberg, INF 368, D-69120 Heidelberg, GERMANY Telephone: +49 6221 54 8869, Telefax: +49 6221 54 8868 E-mail: [email protected] _______________________________________________ vortex mailing list [email protected] http://www.scyld.com/mailman/listinfo/vortex
