Hi! I recently bought a new 3Com 905C "Hurricane" ethernet card. This card resides in an old Pentium 75, acting as a file/backup server for my pc's at home. I installed the driver from http://www.scyld.com/network/3c509.html version from .c file: 3c59x.c:v0.99Y 12/16/2002 Donald Becker, [email protected] The card is detected without any trouble and is operating. But the card is performing VERY poorly. The mii-diag says that autonegotiated media type is 100baseTX-FD. I'm using an US Robotics Hub. The other computer's ethernet card has set the same media type and performs much better when copying files to other pc's on the net (about 3MB/sec). With NFS the throughput is about 300-500Mbps. The 3Com card doesn't drop or overrun packets (ifconfig claims that). What can be wrong with my setup? Is the CPU to slow for the network card, or something else? I've tried the Realtek 8139C (which should be worse) as well...same result.
