re-sequencing md device numbers

In a recent effort to upgrade disk capacity on an EVMS based system that
implements Raid-1 regions on all partitions, I added the new disks to
the system, created the Raid-1 devices and file systems and copied over
the data.

Before the migrations my md devices where numbered md0, md1..., md7.
After the migration and removal of the old disks, the md devices where
numbered md9, md10, ... md13.

This does not cause any real problem other the mdadm.conf script used to
monitor the regions needs to reflect the new device number, and it looks
in-elegant.

I was wondering if there is a way to reorder the device names with out
having to remove and recreate the devices and resulting file systems.

Secondly, what would be the recommended process to upgrading Raid-1 and
Raid-5 EVMS volumes? Maybe I did it wrong.
