Sorry. I'm getting pretty sick of Netscape mail lately...

I've encountered problems with the Java tools at run-time, which I'm
sure everybody is aware of -- on RH 7.2, the gui will hang whe ntrying
to do a guided installation, etc. I've tried Blackdown's Java 1.1.8, and
the same symptons occur (although the programs run very quickly). I had
thought that perhaps the environment variable don't propogate to all the
processes that make up the GUI, since setting LD_ASSUME_KERNEL is the
only way I can get the GUI to even start up.

I've also tried Kaffe, just for fun, but it bombs out with the
following:

[epsg9016]root: fstask 
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sgi/sysadm/manager/FinalizerElem
        at com.sgi.sysadm.manager.TaskManager.main(TaskManager.java:90)

This is the script I invoked:
