k. then i'll use this kernel. but it doesn't have all the debian
packages.

yea, everytime my system boots, the last boot action is starting xdm.
this starts the xserver, and after displaying the login box, keyboard
and screen freeze. the system is not frozen, as power off button with
apm support still shutdowns the system.
anyway, shutdown doesn't switch to normal virtual console, but shows a
screwed up grey screen, like default xdm background.

hope to help ...
