I'd like to keep using the vesa driver for the
framebuffer support. There does exist support for
800x480 with the Neomagic driver but it isn't as fast
or good looking as vga=806 and has other artifact
related bugs, so I'd like to keep using the Vesa
driver.

I'm very curious as to how someone discovered vga=806
when it's not documented anywhere. Maybe I coud use
the same method that someone used to discover vga=806,
to find a 16bit vesa mode.

I have also tried the append line of
"video=vesafb:800x480@16" but that has no effect.

Thanks,

Patrick.
