Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Active Calendar is a PHP class that generates calendars (month or
year view) as HTML tables (XHTML-Valid). It can produce static calendars
without any links or calendars with navigation controls, a date picker
control, event days and content with event URLs, and linkable days
(optionally URL or Javascript). The layout can be configured using CSS,
and JavaScript is not required. The supported dates (on systems using a
32-bit signed integer Unix time_t) are: 1902-2037 (Unix) and 1971-2037
(Windows), when using the default PHP native date functions, and 100-3000
and later, when using the ADOdb Date Library.
Changes: The public method showMonth() has been modified. The class can
now optionally generate and display the calendar days that do not belong
to the current month.

Communications :: BBS
About: alph implements and analyzes historical and traditional ciphers and
codes, such as polyalphabetic, substitutional, and mixed employing
human-reconstructable algorithms. It provides a pipe filter interface in
order to encrypt and decrypt block text to achieve transparency. The
program is meant to be used in conjunction with external programs that
transfer data, resulting in transparent encryption or decryption of
information. The program can thus be used as a mail filter, IRC filter, IM
filter, and so on.
Changes: Three ciphers were added: ADFGX, Feistel, and BASE64. The Feistel
cipher respects the feistel network structure, but outputs and decodes
blocks encoded in base64 to avoid transmission problems.

Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
About: BOTEC is a simple but useful calculator that assists with
astrophysical, orbital mechanics, and space navigation calculations. It
is a "back-of-the-envelope calculator" rather than an
industrial-strength calculator, although this may change in the future.
It is primarily intended for people familiar with physics and Python,
and as such is unlikely to be useful to the average end user. It includes
solar system data, and all values are strictly in SI units.
Changes: Bugfixes were made in total energy computations. Better handling
of Oberth maneuvers was implemented.

Information Management
About: Bugzero is a Web-based bug tracking, defect tracking, issue
tracking, and change management system used in a distributed team
environment to track software bugs, hardware defects, test cases, or any
other issues. It can also be used equally well as a helpdesk customer
support, trouble ticketing, or email management system to collect and
manage customer feedbacks, incidents, requests, and issues. It is easy to
use, but still flexible and adaptive, and can be configured to fit to your
organization's unique business process and workflow.
Changes: This release fixes a bug in version 4.1.x that removed all the
project menu items in memory (but not permanently in database) when an
error occurred in saving the project. Changes were made to the error
message when removing a group that is still in use; all users that are
using this group are now displayed along with the group name. Installation
of alternative JDBC drivers is better supported.

Sat, Jul 30th 2005 13:20
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Text Processing :: Indexing
About: DataparkSearch is a Web search engine tool. It features support for
http, https, ftp, nntp, and news URLs, htdb virtual URL support for
indexing SQL databases, text/html, text/xml, text/plain, audio/mpeg (MP3),
and image/gif mime types built-in support, external parsers support for
other document types, the ability to index multilangual sites using
content negotiation, searching of all of the word forms using ispell
affixes and dictionaries, stopwords and synonyms lists, boolean query
language support, results sorting by relevancy, popularity rank, last
modified time, and importance (a multiplication of the relevancy and
popularity ranks), support for various character sets, and phrases
segmenting for the Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai languages. It has
accent-insensitive search, mod_dpsearch for Apache, and support for
internationalized domain names.
Changes: The algorithm of full relevancy has been modified to get more
speed and to correct values for the case of a large number of document
sections. The language and charset guesser has been tuned for the case
when contradictory data is specified in the server headers and meta tags.
The Subnet command can now accept subnets in the form of a.b.c.d/m, a.b.c,
a.b, or a. robots.txt has been fixed for the case when the "*" User-Agent
is split into two or more parts. The $(FancySize) meta-variable has been
added for search templates. Google-like results grouping has been added.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: Heartbeat provides a heartbeat and IP address takeover functions
for a high-availability Linux cluster. It monitors the members of the
cluster and tells you when one goes down within a few seconds. The current
version runs over serial ports and UDP broadcast/multicast. It is easily
adapted to different interconnect media and protocols. It also will
re-allocate IP addresses and other resources to other members of the
cluster when a machine goes down, and move them back when it comes back
up.
Changes: This release provides support for monitoring of resources
(services) and support for larger clusters that has been tested with 16
nodes. Simple clusters are simple to create, and more complex clusters can
take advantage of rule-based resource placement methods to ensure that the
cluster does exactly what is desired when failures occur. This release has

Utilities
About: html2ps is a PHP equivalent of the popular Perl script by the same
name that accurately converts HTML with images, complex tables (including
rowspan/colspan), layers/divs, and CSS styles to PostScript.
Changes: This release provides support for the PDFLIB output method, which
makes smaller PDFs with better image quality. Floating boxes are now
supported too, since most modern sites use floats in their designs. More
comprehensible error messages are displayed instead of cryptic "cannot
open URL" strings. Postscript image support was enhanced so that generated
files render much faster and are 2-3 times smaller in size. Support for
most CSS properties was added. More than 100 bugs were fixed since the
last release.

[036] - Rant 0.4.4
by Stefan Lang (http://freshmeat.net/users/master_of_puppets/)
Sat, Jul 30th 2005 01:18
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Archiving
About: Rant is a flexible build tool. The equivalent to a Makefile for
make is the Rantfile, which is actually a valid Ruby script that is read
in by the rant command. It currently features automated testing,
packaging, and RDoc generation for Ruby applications and libraries,
creation of gzipped tar and zip archives on all supported platforms
without additional software, recognition of file changes based on MD5
checksums, dependency checking for C/C++ source files (makedepend is not
required), and more. It can generate a script tailored to the needs of a
specific project, which can be used instead of an Rant installation so
that users aren't dependent on Rant.
Changes: This version is compatible with Ruby 1.8.0. Bugs with directories
and file lists were fixed and optional recognition of file changes based on
MD5 checksums was implemented.

[039] - Roland Ulbricht's Instant Database Tool 2.0.beta-1
by Roland U (http://freshmeat.net/users/RolandU/)
Sat, Jul 30th 2005 15:16
Database
About: RUIDB is a simple tool for working with MySQL using a Web browser.
It was made to enable users with little knowledge of MySQL to
add/edit/delete/view table rows. It is also a nice tool for admins or Web
site authors. It was not made to and will never be able to alter the
layout of tables or create tables. It was made for users to work in tables
that already exist. If you want a complete tool for administration of
MySQL, the author recommends using PHPMyAdmin. RUIDB was created because
the author thinks that PHPMyAdmin is too complex, too difficult, and too
dangerous for "normal" users who have little or no knowledge of SQL.
Changes: The code was cleaned. Many bugs were fixed. Documentation was
added.

About: Seismic Toolkit is a tool for processing and displaying seismic
signal data in a graphical interface. It reads seismic signals in SAC
format, and provides a number of user operations, such as zooming,
filtering, spectral analysis, polarisation analysis, time-frequency
representation, Hilbert transform, and singular value decomposition.
Changes: Some scripts for GMT functions have been added for plotting the
results of POLAR analysis (with MTPA tool) in Utilities programs. In
SEED_RESPONSE (in Utilities programs), scripts are provided for plotting
the modulus of transfer functions. So all the resulting files can be
plotted very easily in PostScript with a single small shell using GMT
script.
